September 26th, 2009

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are a popular breed of dog and are often high in demand. As with any dog, you are assured proper training and bonding with your dog when you can get them as a puppy. When choosing your own Cavalier pup, make sure that you are going through a quality breeder that is in high standing. If other owners and connected organizations approve of the breeder it can generally be trusted. All breeders of Cavaliers breeders are required to comply with proper ethics codes and supply owners with necessary paperwork and information for the dog.
Generally, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is very a sociable dog. If given the opportunity they will become the ultimate lap dog. The Cavalier is not a breed to keep locked up in a kennel and if this is how you have previously trained and raised your dogs, you may want to consider a different dog. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a chipper and friendly dog that gets along with anyone and will quickly become your favorite companion.

So, if you have extra time and some love to spare, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is the breed for you. They are small, yet intelligent dogs, making them very easy to train. They love short, but frequent walks and lots of playful attention. Adult Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are recommended for households that already have children due to the size and fragile nature of the tiny Cavalier puppy. When choosing the sex of your dog, there are of course positive and negative aspects of both that you may want to consider. While most prefer the male, they can be excessively territorial and may even mark indoors. Yet many avoid females simply due to the nuisance of their half-yearly cycles.

Once you decide on a dog, the breeder should give you vaccination certificates, worming dates, as well as the dog's historical family information that spans back three generations in the bloodline. They should make sure that you are thoroughly informed about feeding, care, and exercise guidelines, in addition to any other health pertaining issues.
When you do decide on and purchase your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel make sure that your home and yard are prepared for your new addition, as these small dogs can easily find themselves in some difficult predicaments. Secure all outside areas, being sure to block all small holes and crevices or your new Cavalier will surely to find its way out. For a new puppy it is often wise to start with a disposable bed, such as a cardboard box due to the possible accidents to come. Lay down some soft, clean bedding, for your new little guy and worry about a permanent bed at a later date. While the bed may change, its location should always remain consistent and should be just fine near the door for toilet training purposes. As you learn about your new Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, remember that they require much love and affection.
