The Correct Approach to Care for Mini Rabbits

January 26th, 2010
Lop rabbits are incredibly delightful, there is no disputing that fact. They make wonderful pets and many times become treasured members of the family if they are treated correctly. If you wish to successfully raise mini rabbits, lop bunnies are an ideal choice. Most people would agree that this sort of bunny rabbit is not the easiest to successfully raise or care for. Nevertheless, with the right type of education you can raise a healthy mini rabbit that will love and adore you.

One of the most important concerns when keeping mini rabbits is their diet. In most cases lop bunnies will do acceptably well on either timothy hay or grass hay. To keep them happy you can choose to complement their diet with a little bit of yummy nuts and dried fruit. They will love these and it will be able to help balance their diet. Mixes that contain these items can be found at almost any store that sells pet food, but it's important to get a major brand. Rabbit mixes are not all alike and some are better than others.

When feeding nutritious fruits or vegetables to your pet bunny you need to do so sparingly. These need to be considered special snacks and not the major part of their meals. Munching down on too many fresh fruits and vegetables can cause diarrhea. Water is another important factor and needs to be offered to them 24 hours a day.

Protection is another important constituent for sustaining good physical health. A rabbit hutch or cage needs to be given to your mini rabbits and placed where it is quiet. Rabbits frighten easily and need to be kept in a quiet area. Moreover, it's best to supply them with a sizable area where they will have some room to move around when desired. These are small-sized animals, but will love as much spare space as possible.

Though these animals are quite little they usually require more space than larger bunnies which are usually more sedentary. Any spare room will be much appreciated. If you feel daring you can do what a lot of owners do and give them free run of the house. Bunnies can also be fully house trained so you won't have to be concerned about accidents. If you choose to let them hop all around the house it's always a smart idea to keep a careful eye on them. They will chew on furnishings or electrical cords if provided the opportunity so watching them carefully is a must.

Every bunny rabbit has their very own unique personality traits. After you have owned them for a short time you will come to enjoy each individual animal for their differences. Mini lop bunnies can be a bit backward with their social abilities, but it is often humorous to observe them because of their little idiosyncrasies.

Most mini rabbits like to be petted, but don't normally like it when you pick them up. Conversely, a number of them will enjoy all the love you can show them and will often leap on your lap for some extra snuggling and cuddling. When they become accustomed to you they can turn out to be very sweet in their own way. Each type will have their own distinct individual traits, so do a little homework to find out which kind of mini bunny rabbit will be the best for your circumstances.
